NHE3 Assay(s)

Background Information

NHE3 is predominantly expressed in the brush border of the renal proximal tubule and intestinal enterocytes. Mediates the primary pathway for transepithelial sodium and fluid reabsorption. Luminal inhibition of NHE3 in the gut blocks sodium absorption, increasing fluid retention in the stool and modulating paracellular tight junction permeability to reduce systemic phosphate absorption in chronic kidney disease.
