Proven Reliability Starts With Every Lot

ION assays and reagents are manufactured under rigorous quality standards to ensure consistent performance and minimize lot-to-lot variability.

Our Quality Process

1. Raw Materials

High-quality raw materials carefully selected and tested.

2. Manufacturing

Assays produced under strict conditions to ensure consistency.

3. Quality Control

Each lot undergoes extensive quality control testing.

4. Bio-Validation

Functional performance is validated in relevant biological assays.

5. Release

Only lots that meet our rigorous acceptance criteria are released.

6. To You

You receive a lot-tested product you can trust in your research.

Every Lot Is Tested. Consistency You Can Trust.

We test every lot to ensure consistent performance and low lot-to-lot variability.
Below is an example of four lots of the same product tested over four different years.

Weight Variation in Vials of ING-2 AM

Consistent product fill weight across 4 lots manufactured over 4 years.

ING-2 AM Cell Assay Response

Equivalent performance across 4 lots in a cell-based assay

Reliability We Rely On Too

ION products are used daily in our Assay Services
department to generate high-quality in-house data.

Our scientists depend on the same reliable
performance as our customers do.

What This Means for Your Research

Proven Reliability FAQs

What types of product certifications does ION perform?

For fluorescent dyes, ION’s quality control team generally performs structural confirmation by 1H-NMR, mass confirmation and purity determination by LC/MS, absorbance maxima by ultraviolet spectrophotometry, fluorescence excitation and emission maxima by spectrofluorimetry, and ‘bio-validation’ in an appropriate cell assay. For buffer solutions, physical appearance, pH and osmolality are tested prior to subjecting each buffer lot to an appropriate ‘bio-validation,’ further ensuring each product from ION Biosciences effectively supports your fluorescence-based assays.

‘Bio-validation’ is the phrase we use to describe a cell-based assay that each of our dyes is subjected to for product certification, before release. Effectively, each lot of dye is loaded into engineered cells to evaluate the change in fluorescence (F/F0) as the dye responds to cellular stimuli. Intracellular dyes (the acetoxymethyl ester variants) are bio-validated intracellularly, and water-soluble salt variants of dyes are qualified in in vitro assays.

Certificates of Analysis can be found on each product page, by clicking the ‘Documentation’ button at the top or by scrolling down to the bottom of each page and clicking the blue ‘COA’ icon, and selecting the appropriate lot number to retrieve the certificate.

We simply want to provide assurance to our customers that every lot is of the highest quality. By consistently producing the highest quality products, we ensure that your lot-to-lot variability is minimal, so assays are conducted with as much confidence as the frontiers of science can provide.

By conducting cell validations of each dye and buffer lot, you can trust that ION Biosciences has made every attempt to carefully characterize our products, and ensure that confidence in ION's quality before your research.

Performance validations are a key part of our quality process.

Depending on the product type, validations may include cell-based assays, in vivo assays to confirm target response (e.g., Kd), or other functional tests that demonstrate consistent performance.

These tests ensure our products perform as expected before every lot is released.
