Electroneutral potassium-chloride cotransporter (SLC12A6) widely expressed in peripheral nerves, spinal cord, and brain. Crucial for neuronal cell volume homeostasis, periaxonal K⁺ buffering, and structural integrity of myelinated axons and Schwann cells. Loss of functional transport causes severe sensorimotor peripheral neurodegeneration, callosal agenesis, and progressive muscular atrophy.
