BAPTA AM Background

Bapta_AM_Theory

BAPTA [1,2,-bis(o-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,-N 1 ,N 1 ,tetra-acetic acid] was originally prepared by Dr. Tsien (Biochemistry 19, 2396 (1980) and forms the basis of all the calcium indicators. It was derived from EGTA [ethylene glycol bis(β-aminoethyl ether) N,N,N 1 ,N 1 , tetra-acetic acid] to create a selectivity of 10 5 for Ca 2+ over Mg 2+ . BAPTA itself is now used essentially for buffering calcium. It has, however, found diverse applications, as shown by the list of publications below.
